Rewilding is not just about landscapes—it’s about soulscapes. It’s about reawakening the sacred bond between land, human, and animal. Australia’s wild horses, donkeys, camels, and other so-called “introduced” species are not invaders. They are kin. They are holy. This blog is a reclaiming—a spiritual call to remember what wildness really is.
Lately I’ve been feeling keenly the desecration of the sacred. Living in the bush close to animals of all descriptions, my peace is disturbed by gunfire and poison.
Animals in danger.
And as I, too, am part of every animal and the land and the trees and the song of water, wind and forest, I feel in danger. I feel what they feel.
There comes a time when the noise of the world grows just too loud. When the weight of injustice, of cruelty, of disconnection from what matters most, presses heavily on the soul.
And in that moment, a quiet whisper stirs within: What if the answer is to become holy?
Not holy in the way of religions, with robes and rules. But holy in the way of trees.
Of horses.
Of wild wind through grass.
Of the moon’s gentle silence.
Ancient forest holy.
A Return to Sacredness
To become holy is to remember what was never lost. But deeply buried.
It is to walk barefoot on the Earth and feel her heartbeat beneath yours.
It is to speak to animals not with words, but with presence.
It is to hold grief, joy, and awe in the same breath, without shame.
It is to make your life a prayer — not in recitation, but in reverence.
We are not separate from the holy.
We are not sinners to be saved, but sparks of divinity wearing skin and story.
We are sacred because we breathe.
Because we love.
Because we choose kindness in a world that forgets.
Becoming Holy Is a Choice
You become holy when you feed the hungry,
When you whisper to the wounded,
When you forgive the frightened, including yourself.
You become holy when you stop rushing,
When you notice the feather on the path,
The way the dawn blushes at her own beauty,
The soft sigh of your dog asleep at your feet.
You become holy when you remember who you really are.
Not the role.
Not the resume.
But the radiant being beneath it all.
A Call
This is not a call to perfection.
This is a call to presence.
To stillness.
To wonder.
To fierce, gentle love.
To become holy is not to escape the world,
But to inhabit it more fully.
To become the sanctuary in a world of noise.
So come.
Light the candle.
Touch the earth.
Offer your breath to the wind.
And let the holiness you are already made of
Begin to rise.
May we rewild not just the land, but our hearts. May we become holy by walking gently again, in harmony with all beings. Join us at Rewilding Australia—not just to save the wild, but to remember your place within it.
