Songs from the Heart of the Living Landscape
Billie D is an Australian bard, songwriter, storyteller and award-winning filmmaker whose music gives voice to Australia’s wild horses, wildlife and the living landscapes they call home.
Inspired by the ancient Celtic tradition of the bard, her songs are woven from compassion, remembrance and relationship with the living world. They are gentle laments for Country — songs that honour animals, rivers, forests, mountains and the enduring bond between all living beings.
Billie writes songs of witness. Her music invites listeners to step quietly into the emotional lives of the wild and to rediscover the old ways of belonging, where humans are not separate from nature, but part of Her great family.
Her debut album, Voices of the Wild, was born during one of the most heartbreaking chapters in the story of Australia’s Snowy Mountain horses. Songs such as “Why Why Why,” “If We Could Speak,” “All Beings Belong,” “You Don’t Know Country,” “Save our Brumbies,” and “You Don’t Care” speak not only for the horses, but for every being who has ever felt misunderstood, judged, displaced or alone.
Billie believes music can reach places that argument never will. Her hope is not simply to change minds, but to awaken hearts, to remind us that compassion and conservation need not stand apart, and that there are gentler ways of walking with the Earth.
Alongside her music, Billie is an award-winning filmmaker, author and storyteller whose work has spent decades exploring the deep emotional lives of animals and our relationship with the natural world. Whether through film, books or song, her calling remains the same: to help restore our relationship with the living landscape and inspire a future where kindness, beauty and respect for all beings become the old ways remembered once more.
Billie affectionately describes herself as Australia’s Feral Faery Bard, a modern keeper of stories who walks between the worlds of music, myth and the wild. Rooted in Celtic wisdom and inspired by Australia’s unique landscapes, she writes songs that honour both the seen and unseen, carrying forward the ancient tradition of singing for the land and all who belong to Her.
Voices of the Wild
Billie’s first album, Voices of the Wild, is a collection of Celtic-inspired songs of compassion, lament and hope for Australia’s wild horses, wildlife and the living landscape.
These are songs with a perspective of both lived experience and remembrance. They are songs that ask us to listen and they remind us that every living being longs for home.
“Sometimes a song can reach a place that an argument never will.”
